INTRODUCTION
This bursary was created by Vinosha Thevarajah, the founding and managing lawyer of Theva Law.
Vinosha completed her legal studies from the University of Ottawa in 2015. During her law school journey, she was confronted with multiple financial challenges and hardships. Vinosha understands the particular struggles that students face when completing a legal education in Ontario.
In 2017, Vinosha established Theva Law in the City of Markham making it the first law firm in markham providing services in Tamil. In celebration of Theva Law reaching 5 years in business, Vinosha created this bursary in the hopes of mitigating challenges for law students.
PURPOSE OF FUND
To provide financial assistance to a law student who identifies as a member of the Tamil community and has demonstrated financial need to assist them in the pursuit of their studies.
BURSARY DETAILS
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
1. be registered as a full-time domestic student in a Common Law program at any Ontario University;
2. identify as a member of the Tamil community; and
3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by a review of the applicant’s supporting letter/statement.
Value of the award: Variable - minimum $1,000.00 to maximum $5,000.00
Number of awards: Variable - minimum 1 to maximum 5
Frequency of the award: One-time
Level or program of study: 1L, 2L or 3L student in a Common Law Program

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT
1. A letter/statement (maximum 1 page) introducing themselves, outlining how they meet the eligibility criteria, and describing how this bursary will help them in their educational pursuit; and
2. Proof of enrolment (course schedule and student identification card).
